INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT COVID19 EPIDEMIC (26.4.2020)

Here are instructions about how to use the equipment during Covid19 epidemia. We want with these instructions to enable and encourage paddling by yourself and work at the same time to slow the spread of the epidemic. These instructions have been made following the Finnish canoeing and Rowing Federation guiding lines (https://www.melontajasoutuliitto.fi/?x297396=2092405)

• Don't come to the club and use the equipment if you feel ill, even mildly.

• You can borrow kayaks, canoes or SUP boards and other equipment (buoyancy vets, spray decks, paddles...). It is always better and safer if you can use your own equipment, but it is a safe to use the club's equipment if you respect the instructions.

• Respect social distancing in the shed, on the beach and during paddling. In case of, you can wait for your turn outside of the shed, if there's a lot of people going to paddle.

• Take care to wash your hands with soap before and after handling the club’s equipment. There is pine soap in the sheds, that can be used to wash your hands in the river. The is also hand disinfectant, paper towels and DS6 disinfectant that can be used as needed. DS6 disinfectant should only be used to disinfect hard surfaces (eg paddles) by spraying on the surface and allowing to dry - it is not suitable for textiles or skin.
• We recommend avoiding more distant and riskier trips to slow down the spread of the virus.

ONLINE BOOKING SYSTEM (1.6.2020) : https://evaraus.fi/kcry

The kayaks, canoes and SUP boards must always be booked, except few kayaks. Read the instructions carefully, if you intend to borrow the club's equipment!

The system works on a smartphone, computer or tablet. Only SUP boards, kayaks and canoes can be booked through the system. Vests, paddles and other equipment do not need to be booked separately.

Some of Nokkala's equipment is not in the system at all, such as polo kayaks, old children's Prijon fiber kayaks, because their use is very limited.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Open the page: https://evaraus.fi/kcry
  • Select english version (on the rigt upper corner)
  • Select a group (for example, Tukkisaari plastic kayaks)
  • Select a kayak, canoe or board (for example, Prijon SEAYAK S19)
  • Select a start time from the calendar. The calendar only shows free times, if the equipment is already booked, it is of course not bookable.
  • Fill in the "customer information", including the place of use: tell us where you are going to paddle for safety reasons, among other things.
  • The automatic duration is 1 hour. If you want to borrow for more than an hour, click “change end time ...” You can book for a maximum of 24 hours at a time
  • Confirm reservation. Once confirmed, the booking can no longer be edited, but can be canceled. You will receive a confirmation email with a link to review and, if necessary, cancel your booking.
  • Cancellation: remember that if your paddling session is canceled the booking must always be canceled!

LIMITATIONS

  • The system is meant for K&C members only.
  • Reservations can be made for up to 14 days ahead.
  • For bookings longer than 24 hours and for bookings starting more than 14 days ahead, please contact us (Tämä sähköpostiosoite on suojattu spamboteilta. Tarvitset JavaScript-tuen nähdäksesi sen. / 0405840845)
  • For overnigt booking there's a bugg (we are working on it). Contact us in tis case (Tämä sähköpostiosoite on suojattu spamboteilta. Tarvitset JavaScript-tuen nähdäksesi sen. / 0405840845)

GOOD TO KNOW

  • Once or twice in the summer you get to bring your friends (not a member) to try. In that case, the equipment must also be booked or you may use a kayak that is not in the booking system. In any case, avoid rush hours when there aren't always enough kayaks for everyone.
  • To get to know the system, there is a "test kayak" on the list that you can use to practice before the actual bookings.
  • If you return the equipment earlier (more than an hour) than you have booked, report it (Tämä sähköpostiosoite on suojattu spamboteilta. Tarvitset JavaScript-tuen nähdäksesi sen. / 0405840845) or cancel your reservation, so the equipment will be immediately available to other users.
  • Kayaks in the reservation system (practically all but a few) may not be borrowed without reservation, even if they are in the shed.
  • Old paper folder. Kayaks, canoes and noards reserved through the online  reservation system do not need to be recorded separately in the performance files of the shed.
  • However, if you use kayaks or canoes that are not in the booking system, you have to write down your loan , also when you are using your own equipment.
  • For Nokkala touring kayaks (Alz and Yukon), the system is not kayak specific. For example, when you book one ALZ kayak, you can choose which one you want to take.
  • If the names of the kayaks, canoes and boards are unknown for you, please go to the shed and learn them or go to this page: http://kc.fi/index.php/jaesenille/69
  • In case of emergency, reservations can be made by e-mail or telephone (Tämä sähköpostiosoite on suojattu spamboteilta. Tarvitset JavaScript-tuen nähdäksesi sen. / 0405840845)
  • When is the use of the equipment free of charge and when is it chargeable? Members are allowed to use the club's equipment for free if it takes less than 24 hours. It means , that for example the borrowing starts at 6 pm on a certain day, the equipment must be returned no later than the following day at 6 pm. Equipment must be rented more than 24 hours a day and prices can be found at http://kc.fi/index.php/kurssit-ja-palvelut/vuokraus
  • K&C keeps the right to change reservations.

EQUIPMENT GUIDE

The purpose of the guide is to help in the selection of kayaks, especially for beginners. If you don’t know what kind of kayak, canoe or board to borrow, check out the guide HERE . For the moment it is only in finnish but english version will come soon, or not :)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE EQUIPMENT

When you go kayaking, follow these steps:

- First, book the kayak, canoe or SUP-board on the online booking system (available in english, too): https://evaraus.fi/kcry

- Go to the shed, remember we have two sheds, let's begin with Nokkala on Oulujoki river.

NOKKALA Hintantie 18b (River touring kayaks, youth, polo and white water equipment + 1 open canoe and 1 double kayak)

{mosmap width = '400' | height = '300' | lat = '65 .023626 '| lon = '25 .499559' | zoom = '12 '| zoom type = 'Large' | zoomNew = '0' | mapType = 'Normal' | showMaptype = '1' | overview = '0' | text = 'Nokkala Boating Center' | lang = ''}

- put the key in the lock and open the door.

- the key doesn't work, it's probably the wrong shed, go to the next one and try to see if the key works :).

- move the kayak / canoe out of the shed. Kayaks / canoes must be carried, they must not be towed. The club's canoes / kayaks are marked with KC or K&C.

- take a suitable buoyancy vest and a spray deck

- Put them on, first the spray deck and then the vest.

- close the door

- place a kayak or canoe in the water next to or on the dock, from which you can then slide into the water. The open canoe should always be completely immersed in water.

- sit in the kayak / canoe.

- get off the kayak because you forgot the paddle :)

- go back to the shed and open the door

- choose a paddle of suitable length (next to the paddle stand there is a table about the length of the paddle)

- close the door

- Sit in the kayak. When going kayaking, DO NOT use the club paddle!

- Go paddling

- The motorway bridge is under renovation and there's a 6 meter large path to get under the bridge between the 1st of June and the 16th of August 2020. Outside of this period, it will not be possible to paddle under the bridge. Be careful if the current is strong. If you like to paddle downstream from Nokkala to Tuira beach, you should always stay close to the north beach (Nokkala shed side beach).

- when returning the equipment empty and wash the kayak / canoe, there sponges in the shed.

- close the door

- open the door, you've forgotten something inside the shed

- Take the forgotten item and leave

- close the door

- kayaking was so good, that you want to try Tukkisaari's sea equipment right away. Switch to the next chapter :)

TUKKISAARI, Tukkisaarenkuja (18 seakayaks, 2 open canoes, 4 SUP boards, 1 double kayak)

{mosmap width='400'|height='300'|lat='65.026347'|lon='25.451417'|zoom='12'| zoomType='Large'|zoomNew='0'|mapType='Normal'| showMaptype='1'|overview='0'|text='Tukkisaari'|lang=''}

- In Tukkisaari's shed, the club's equipment is at the front of the shed, as well as on the right back part. Tthe back left part of the shed is reserved for members ’own kayaks, and they are not, of course, in free use. The open canoes are locked in the outdoor storage (the locks can be opened with the same key as even the short ones), the SUP boards are on the right wall shelf.

- Remember to book equipment through the BOOKING SYSTEM. Two kayaks (Seayak S18 and Star St30) and one SUP board (SUP 3 - Bugz) are outside the system, i.e. cannot be booked through the system. For these as well as with own equpiment, you will have to note in the paper folder your loans, as we did before.

- The place where you are going to paddle for your own safety has to be emntioned when booking.

- Take a suitable buoyancy vest and a spraydeck. If you are a beginner, take a potentially loose spraydeck that is easy to remove from the cockpit of the kayak in case of capsize.

- Put them on, first the spray deck and then the vest. Make sure the vest stays well in place soon by tightening appropriately. If breathing is difficult , loose a little :)

- move the kayak / canoe out of the shed. Kayaks / canoes must be carried, they must not be towed! One canoe trolley is available if the kayak / canoe is too heavy.

- close the door

- place a kayak or canoe in the water next to the dock.

- sit in the kayak / canoe. Lean on the dock, don't use the paddle.

- Go paddling. Consider the weather conditions and your own skills when choosing a route.

- When you return, lift the kayak onto the loose stands in the shed for drying and cleaning. Do not lower the kayak to the ground so as not to grab the sand from the bottom. Preferably, lift the kayak directly from the dock to the racks.

- Drain the water from the kayak and cleanit  with the sponges in the shed, both inside and out of the kayak. If the bottom of a kayak is still sandy when you put in in the shed, the sand wil drop into the kayak that is just below when it will dry.

- Leave the deck hatches open

- Rember to close the lock when leaving.

- What a great kayaking day, tomorrow again! :)
